5th Annual Community Clinic held by The Ramakrishna Clinic of South Africa - 2016

On the first real summers day that Durban has had this year, Sunday 5th December 2016, The Ramakrishna Clinic of South Africa, Durban held is 5th and final Community Medical Clinic for the year, in Clare Estate. Earlier this year, the Clare Estate and surrounding areas was identified as a resource limited area that required supplementary medical assistance. The Ramakrishna Clinic of South Africa, Durban in collaboration with the Clare Estate Shiv Temple Society hosted the hundreds of patients that attended the day long clinic. Read more...

Swami Vivekananda Birth Anniversary Celebrations

The Centre celebrated the 153rd Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda with a special youth programme (2 to 3:30 pm) and Public Function (4 to 6pm) on Saturday 30th January 2016. The 154th Tithi Puja of Swami Vivekananda was celebrated on Sunday 31st January 2016 from 6:30 am to 9:30 am.

Sri Sarada Devi Tithi Puja and Kalpataru Day Satsang

A special Satsang was held on 1st January 2016 being the Tithi Puja of Sri Sarada Devi and the auspicious Kalpataru Day. The programme was from 9 to 10:30 am. Revered Swami Sumanasanandaji addressed the devotees.

Special Satsang

A special Satsang was held in honour of the late Revered Swami Brahmarupanandaji Maharaj on Saturday 14 November 2015. Revered Swami Brahmarupanandaji, who was South African born had recently visited South Africa. Maharaj passed away of a heart attack on 2nd November in Bangalore, India. He was 81 years old.

Visit of Revered Swami Gautamanandaji

We are pleased to report that Revered Swami Gautamanandaji Maharaj, a senior Trustee of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission and the President of our Ramakrishna Math, Chennai visited South Africa between 3 - 17 December 2015. Revered Maharaj was accompanied by Revered Swami Atmajnanandaji Maharaj, also of the Ramakrishna Math, Chennai. Revered Maharaj visited our various Sub-Centres and Satsang Groups during this period (according to the programme below).

Shri Krishna Ashtami Celebrations

Krishna Ashtami was observed at the Centre from Sunday 30th August to Saturday 5th September 2015. The daily programme comprised bhajans, kirtans, Bhagavad Gita chanting and discourses. More than 200 devotees attended the programmes.

Medical Clinic

The Ramakrishna Clinic of South Africa held a Community Medical Camp at the Greenbury Secondary School on Sunday 6 September 2015. 253 patients were treated.

Northern KwaZulu Natal Hinduism Conference

The Northern Kwazulu Natal Hinduism Conference was held in Newcastle on 20 September 2015. More than 250 delegates attended. The theme of the conference was 'The Ramayana - Acient Wisdom for Modern Times.'

Ramakrishna Clinic of South Africa

The Ramakrishna Clinic continues to provide services to the indigent population of the country. The hub of the Clinic's activities is at the Ramakrishna Clinic in Foresthaven, Phoenix. Up untill 15 August 2015 the Clinic has conducted 1235 medical consultations and performed 48 minor surgical operations. 203 Dental procedures, including extractions were performed. 856 Formal laboratory tests were performed.

Women's Empowerment Programme

The Centre hosted a Women's Empowerment Programme in commemoration of National Women's Day on Saturday, 15th August 2015. Over 100 women devotees attended this programme which included addresses by Revered Swami Sumanasananadaji, Revered Pravrajika Ishtaprana Mataji (Sri Sarada Devi Ashram) and other speakers. The programme also included a self-defence demonstration, a yoga demonstration and cultural items.

Guru Purnima

Guru Purnima was observed at the Centre on Friday, 31st July 2015 with puja, hawan, satsang and discourses from 7:00 am to 10:00 am and again from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Approximately 250 devotees attended the programmes.

Appointment of New President

Revered Swami Sumanasanandaji assumed the Presidency of the Ramakrishna Centre of South Africa, Durban, on 23 July 2015. Revered Maharaj was ordained a Monk of the Ramakrishan Order in 1991 by the 12th President of the Ramkrishna Math and Mission, Most Revered Swami Bhuteshanandaji. Before becoming President of the Durban Centre, Maharaj served at various educational institutions in India. His most recent appointment was as the head of the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Cherrapunjee, Meghalaya, North East India. Maharaj succeeded Revered Swami Vishwatmanandaji who departed from South Africa on 27 July 2015.

Medical Clinic

The Ramakrishna Clinic of South Africa held a Community Medical Camp at the Verulam Day and Frail Care Centre on 12 July 2015. 588 patients were treated in a variety of disciplines.

Children's Cultural Festival

The Centre hosted the 61st Annual Southern Children's Cultural Festival on 5th July 2015 at the M H Joosub Hall, University of KwaZulu Natal, Westville Campus. Approximately 1500 guests attended this highly successful display of Cultural talent by children of the Centre. All the children who performed attend the weekly Hinduism for Children classes at our various Sub-Centres and Satsang Groups.


Revered Swami Vishwatmanandaji, Revered Swami Sumanasanandaji and Revered Swami Tadbhasanandaji arrived in South Africa on 4th July 2015. The official welcome for our Revered Swamijis was held at the 61st Annual Southern KwaZulu Natal Children's Cultural Festival on 5th July 2015.
