Women's Empowerment Programme
The Centre hosted a Women's Empowerment Programme in commemoration of National Women's Day on Saturday, 15th August 2015. Over 100 women devotees attended this programme which included addresses by Revered Swami Sumanasananadaji, Revered Pravrajika Ishtaprana Mataji (Sri Sarada Devi Ashram) and other speakers. The programme also included a self-defence demonstration, a yoga demonstration and cultural items.
Guru Purnima was observed at the Centre on Friday, 31st July 2015 with puja, hawan, satsang and discourses from 7:00 am to 10:00 am and again from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Approximately 250 devotees attended the programmes.
Appointment of New President
Revered Swami Sumanasanandaji assumed the Presidency of the Ramakrishna Centre of South Africa, Durban, on 23 July 2015. Revered Maharaj was ordained a Monk of the Ramakrishan Order in 1991 by the 12th President of the Ramkrishna Math and Mission, Most Revered Swami Bhuteshanandaji. Before becoming President of the Durban Centre, Maharaj served at various educational institutions in India. His most recent appointment was as the head of the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Cherrapunjee, Meghalaya, North East India. Maharaj succeeded Revered Swami Vishwatmanandaji who departed from South Africa on 27 July 2015.
The Ramakrishna Clinic of South Africa held a Community Medical Camp at the Verulam Day and Frail
Care Centre on 12 July 2015. 588 patients were treated in a variety of disciplines.
Children's Cultural Festival
The Centre hosted the 61st Annual Southern Children's Cultural Festival on 5th July 2015 at the M H Joosub Hall, University of KwaZulu Natal, Westville Campus. Approximately 1500 guests attended this highly successful display of Cultural talent by children of the Centre. All the children who performed attend the weekly Hinduism for Children classes at our various Sub-Centres and Satsang Groups.
Revered Swami Vishwatmanandaji, Revered Swami Sumanasanandaji and Revered Swami Tadbhasanandaji arrived in South Africa on 4th July 2015. The official welcome for our Revered Swamijis was held at the 61st Annual Southern KwaZulu Natal Children's Cultural Festival on 5th July 2015.
