Our Mission

The Ramakrishna Centre of South Africa is a religio-humanitarian institution established to promote Vedanta as exemplified by the life and teachings of Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda. Sri Ramakrishna’s message of practical spirituality and Swami Vivekananda’s humanistic ideas provide the impetus for the Centre’s work in South Africa. The spiritual progress of the individual and thereby the community at large forms the central thrust of the activities of the Centre. The Centre is also involved in numerous humanitarian and social upliftment programmes amongst the disadvantaged people in South Africa. The Centre is a Branch of the worldwide Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, West Bengal, India. In South Africa the Centre has both Public Benefit Organisation and NonProfit Organisation status, below are the respective numbers: Public Benefit Organisation No.: 930007651 Non Profit Organisation No.: 053063NPO Let us reflect on the motto of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission: Atmano mokshartham jagad hitaya cha, "For one's own salvation, and for the welfare of the world", to remind us that our goal and purpose is our spiritual evolution, while we endeavour to improve the lives of those in need in a spirit of service as worship.
